1. All counties in Florida have an extension office dedicated to Food and
Agricultural education, research, and resources for all to use freely (including the
youth). Use https://sfyl.ifas.ufl.edu/find-your-local-office/ to locate your extension
office.
2. Eventbrite is another resource you can use to locate classes/events related to
gardening for free. Some classes/events are priced but if you're really interested
in a particular field such as beekeeping I would look at this as an investment!
Afterall, no one can take away your knowledge and experience.
3. Nurseries typically offer free events/classes!
4. Internships!! Great way to expand in knowledge while also getting paid.
5. Join your community garden or plant society club and offer volunteering services.
This will allow you to connect with your local neighbors, get hands-on
experience, and also learn more about native plants.
6. Libraries are another great and free source for educating yourself on plants. I
however would recommend books designed for Florida gardening since you will
be dealing with the seasons, soil, and temperatures of this particular state.
7. Volunteer!! Non-profit organizations, botanical gardens, farms etc. are accepting
to volunteers!
8. Facebook groups are awesome to stay involved with other local gardeners and
share your gardening experiences.
9. Farmersalmac.com and garden.org have been helpful and free resources.
10.Book a farm or greenhouse tour. Typically has a low cost but is a great and
knowledgeable experience.
IdeasForUS & FleetFarming is a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to serving the
environment with Environmental solutions and acts of service!! They have farming,
greenhouse, fundraising, landscaping, and educational programs available. Whatever
may float your boat you can get hands on or help out through your computer. We are
able to grow and reach others if we all work together. Come join and be sure to say
hello to me (Brionna Riley) if your near Orlando! I'd love to meet my neighbors. They
have locations in Orlando, Tampa Bay, UCF, and other countries across the world!! Visit
https://ideasforus.org/ to get more information and to get involved.
